My girls just love their hair

I have been meaning to add a comment to this site but have been so busy. My girls have had their hair done by Romika and the difference in their hair is wonderful. So much softer and more managable. Romika is very professional and the location is awesome (a few minutes from wherein live).

Thanks so much Romika.

Healthy Hair Tips

Wear and Tear
Once your hair emerges from your scalp, it is considered dead and has no way to renew itself. So by the time your hair is past your shoulders it is a couple of years old.

Even if we look after our hair, it is still a long time to face the daily wear and tear we inflict on our hair - brushing, washing, blow drying, dying and more! This daily damage plus your bodies health can all impact on your hair growing abilities.

Reasons for slow hair growth
A healthy diet also plays a major role in your hair's condition and growth rate. Nutritional deficiencies can lead to thinning hair - ultimately your hair reflects the condition of your body.

Your hair may stop growing if you have any health problems or are suffering from any nutritional deficiencies.

Since hair is protein, a low protein diet may sometimes be the cause of a slow hair growth cycle. If you eat a protein-rich diet, it will often result in improved hair growth.

Excessive stress is known to slow down hair growth, and can even lead to hair falling out. If your life is particularly stressful, try to set aside some time for meditation or relaxation. It has also been discovered that regular sleep can help your hair grow faster (7-9 hours a night is suggested).

Foods, Vitamins and supplements to help hair growth
Hair is mostly protein, so nutritionists advise those wanting healthy hair to eat well balanced diets that include healthy proteins, along with foods high in vitamin B, C, E, A and K.

Your hair will most likely respond well to the addition of high protein foods such as meats, eggs, cheese, seeds and nuts. Fish has good protein as well as essential fatty acids and natural oils.

Vitamin B - Green vegetables, beans, sunflower seeds, nuts and peas.

Vitamin C - Citrus fruits like oranges, lemons, limes, melons and berries.

Vitamin E - Avocados, rice bran, nuts, dark green vegetables, legumes and whole grains.

Vitamin A - Carrots, sweet potatoes, squash, broccoli, cantaloupe and apricots.

Vitamin K - Seafood, dairy, figs, asparagus, broccoli, lettuce, brussel sprouts, cabbage, dark green leafy vegetables, oatmeal, soybeans, wheat, yoghurt, egg yolks and liver.

Hair Growing Tips

Eating a healthy diet. Avoid or cut back on smoking, drinking alcohol, caffeine and foods that are high in sugar or fat. These are all bad for your body, and will affect the condition of your hair.

Allow your body to grow hair by giving yourself plenty of sleep and rest. Give yourself time to relax when you're feeling very stressed.

Buy a good quality brush or comb - avoid cheap plastic brushes.

Treat your hair carefully by avoiding any unnecessary brushing.

Limit the use of styling tools such as straighteners, hair dryers and hot rollers -these all cause stress to your hair.

Have regular trims to get rid of split ends and to keep your hair looking and feeling healthy.

Weekly scalp massages provide stimulation to the hair follicles.

Also do a weekly hair treatment to protect the hair's shaft.

Avoid chlorine and saltwater. If you go swimming, shampoo your hair as soon as possible afterwards. If you spend alot of time in the sun, use a conditioner that provides SPF protection.

Do not brush your hair when wet. Use a wide tooth comb and be gentle with your hair when it is wet. Do not rub it vigorously with a towel

The Truth About Splitends

Hello ladies I would like to talk to you about a problem that everyone with hair has, no matter what kind of hair you have no matter what color your hair is we all have this one thing in common when it comes to our hair and that is SPLIT ENDS!

First I would like to dispel a myth or two - the myth is split ends only occur on the ENDS of your hair.
This is False-Split ends occur throughout all of your hair so cutting off the ends of your hair does NOT get rid of ALL of your split ends. the moment you cut of the ends you are now just exposing the next layer of hair that is now exposed with their splitends. trimming the ends is a Cosmetic thing, it is primarily done to make the hair look neater.
let's face it when we trim those ends our hair not only looks better , it moves better and feels better.

Now I am not against trimming the ends, trimming is necessary to correct uneven lengths, and remove split and broken hair on the ends of our hair.
I just want you to know the true purpose of trimming the ends.

Now let me explain this the best way that I can,

Split ends do not break evenly, should your ends split, common sense tells you it will break and tear off to the side before it will evenly split up the hair shaft. If your hair shaft is badly damaged then their is a possibility that it can split from end to end, which is unlikely trimming the ends off will help anyway

Now myth No# 2- My hair WON'T GROW unless I trim my hair. Ladies I am sorry but this is a MYTH. I have heard so many things when it comes to this. I have heard hairdressers tell women (if you don't trim your ends your hair WON'T grow)
The ends of your hair have NOTHING to do with the growth of hair that comes out of your scalp. I don't care what you have been taught for all of these years.
The blood in your scalp nourishes the PAPILLA which nourishes the hair roots and that is what MAKES THE HAIR GROW!
whether you trim your ends or not YOUR HAIR IS GROWING.
The hairshaft is DEAD so their is no way that taking off the hair ends can signal to the hair roots inside the scalp to produce longer hair.

Now let's talk about those ends because many swear that if they don't cut them off their hair will stop growing.

Now the hair ends is the oldest part of our hair and because of our coily texture the sebum in our scalp does not reach down the hair shaft, the longer our hair gets it is more prone to dryness and breakage. we have to manually apply moisture and seal it in to keep it from breaking off. that is why moisturizers are so very important to our hair's health.
Now good hair maintenance can help keep those split ends at bay but no matter what hair product you use if you have poor hair maintenance you will get split ends.

What is poor hair maintenance-
1.Washing the hair with shampoo's that have harsh ingredients in them
2. Not deep conditioning the hair with heat.
3.Raking a brush throughout the hair
4.Not moisturizing the hair.
5.Not protecting the hair with silk or satin scarfs in bad weather.
6.Not protecting the hair when you go to bed at night.
7.Using heat implements on the highest heat and on dirty hair
8.Using heat implements on the hair everyday.

Proper hair care with the proper haircare products will surely help with keeping splits at a minimum.

Now whatever you hear or read, it is impossible to heal a split end, you can mask split ends with leave-in conditioners or serums ( which temporarily glues them together) but as soon as you pass a comb through your hair or shampoo your hair, they unglue.

You say I can try protective styling they will keep the split ends at bay. the truth is protective styles can't help if your hair is unhealthy. you can tuck your hair under all day long if your hair is dry you will get split ends. split ends can be unsightly and ugly and cause alot of concern, but what is the cure? cut them off.? keep doing protective styling? you may think but I want to grow my hair long, if I keep cutting them how will I achieve longer hair . if I wear my hair down my ends will break.

First of all longer hair is more prone to split ends and are not inevitable, longer hair needs more care.

Hair is different lengths throughout your head due to the growth phases of each follicle, so you trim the ends thinking the splits will be removed, but like I already have said they will be but the next layer will be exposed with their split ends. There is no way to remove all of your split ends by just cutting off the bottom, so you ask (what do I do)?
Well here are some tips I use to keep my split ends at bay and my hair does not need trimming as often, in fact when I do this my ends look like they are already trimmed, I even had a hair stylist tell me one time when I wanted him to trim my hair after 6 months that I did not need it , my hair was healthy and my ends were nice, (not that coming from a stylist) and mind you I don't do protective styling unless I am excercising ( which even then I just wrap my hair with a scarf on it.) Here are my tips.

1. Do not brush hair, brushes pull out the hair and can cause splitting, only brush to put in style and never do that roughly.
2. Deep condition with your protein and moisturizing conditoners(always apply to the ends mostly) they strengthen the hair and add moisture.
3. Moisturize (focus the moisturizer on the ends of your hair) dry hair splits and breaks. The right moisturizer will keep the ends from splitting ( not a protein based moisturizer, they make the ends hard, hard hair is dry hair, dry hair breaks.
and last but not least try to keep the hair pins and rubber bands out of the hair and if you wear hats put a silk scarf under it to protect the hair or a silk scarf aroung the coat to protect your hair ends. you will see alot less splitting ends, and alot less trimming will need to be done.

Happy hair growing!
